As an English trainer, I’ve worked alongside international professionals as a manager, recruiter, and teacher trainer in the private English education sector in Spain.

Over a decade, I saw that the biggest challenge for people speaking English at work is NOT grammar. It’s communication style and lack of confidence.

That’s why I created Talktips, a safe space where people master how to sound good (and feel good) when they speak English for professional purposes.

HI, I'M SUSIE SHIELDS

an expert English TRAINER IN communication for work.

I was Head of Studies of Barcelona’s largest adults’ English academy for 7 years, managing a team of 25 in a school of 1500 students.

I have tutored English to executives of Spanish companies including Endesa, La Caixa Bank, RACC, Massimo Dutti and Mango.

I have a degree in History from the University of Edinburgh, and the Cambridge CELTA Certificate from the University of Glasgow.

From New York to Madrid to Vancouver to Melbourne, I have worked closely with people from all over the globe.

I grew up in Scotland, but I’ve lived in Spain for over a decade, including one year in Cuenca (long story). Nowadays I’m based between Barcelona and the Pyrenees.

I’m fuelled by coffee and my love of mountains, where I go snowboarding, road cycling, cross-country skiing, hiking, bouldering, trail running…am I missing anything?
